Starter kit for farmers
The Terra Preta e.V. association aims to produce Terra Preta in one or more districts in cooperation with municipal and private partners (Public Private Partnership) and to make it available to farmers, horticultural businesses and allotment gardeners in the region at low cost.
Our Vision 2030 describes the target achievement of the association using the example of the district of Hameln-Pyrmont.
The construction of hummus in the Weserbergland is to be practiced by all those involved in the process and initial experience is to be gained with the method, which is new in our region. The safety in dealing with Terra Preta on the user side should contribute to increasing the willingness to switch from chemical to biological tillage. The economic possibilities of CO2 certificate trading should also be explored and included in the overall profitability of the company.
In order to start the humus build-up using biochar or Terra Preta and to practice the processes of procurement, mixing and storage of Terra Preta, application to fields etc. and to familiarize the regional farmers with it, the Terra Preta eV association will issue certified biochar procure on the open market.
With the involvement of the users and the scientific companions, the remaining ingredients are procured, mixed and stored in an anaerobic atmosphere for about 3 months until they are fully mature. The finished Terra Preta is then applied to defined fields in such a way that the build-up of humus and the associated increase in yield of the agricultural products can be shown and documented in a comparison without / with Terra Preta.
Further scientific project support can be provided by some agricultural science faculties.
Planned test projects in the application of Terra Preta are e.g.:
In the city forest of Hamelin, when planting cultures
In urban areas, when planting single trees
agricultural land in the district
horticultural businesses
